BBC Bias: Sack Laura Kuenssberg

I've lost count of the amount of times I've written complaints to the BBC on their political bias and how they are effectively the Tory government's propaganda machine rather than a supposed impartial public service, but today they reached a new low. Laura Kuenssberg's decision to orchestrate a twitter dogpile on the worried father of a seriously ill newborn daughter because he had the audacity to confront our alleged Prime Minister about how his government is destroying the NHS is disgusting. There is NO excuse for attempting to add to this man's trauma by encouraging far right activists to troll him online.

And so what if that father votes Labour? His political affiliations do not matter here, what matters is he feels his baby is not being adequately treated and he has firsthand experience of seeing how the lack of government funding is a serious factor in the shortcomings of his daughter's treatment. Not being a Tory does not make his experience any less valid, and he was right to call out Johnson for his publicity stunt and we all saw this disgraceful dictator stupidly, blatantly lie on camera when he said that there was no press in attendance.

The irony today is that I can't complain about this to the BBC, because their complaints site is crashing under the weight of incoming missives from people who feel as disgusted by Kuenssberg's biased and dangerous behaviour as I am. Hopefully this will make the BBC realise that Kuenssberg's position is no longer tenable and that they need to rethink how they report politics to their audiences. A Labour government who will initiate Leveson 2 and overhaul the BBC cannot come quickly enough.

  1. Strangely the outcry does not feature on the BBC website!

    1. Indeed! Remember when Angus Deayton was conveniently sacked from Have I Got News For You by the BBC for becoming the news (nothing to do with Ian Hislop and Paul Merton disliking him of course)? Now the BBC just conveniently elect not to report when one of their own becomes the news.

      I do not know how they can call themselves an impartial public service broadcaster when their own trust have recognised and reported that Kuenssberg has problems with accuracy when reporting Labour, Today's Sarah Sands is a Tory political campaigner, Nick Robinson was once head of the Young Conservatives Association at his Uni, Amol Rajan worked for the Tories all throughout David Cameron's tenure, Evan Davis was an economist on the Poll Tax and Andrew Neill is with The Spectator! Where are the journalists with left wing credentials?

  2. I used to think that they were impartial until the Scottish Independence Reforendum opened my eyes.
    Now there appears to be no pretence as to impartiality

    1. My own awakening goes a little bit further back, to when they blinked during the whole Iraq sexed up dossier thing. When I later learnt that Alistair Campbell was haranguing the news team daily, pushing them to report favourably (and oh how sainted he's now depicted in the MSM eh?) it made a lot of sense, but I kind of hoped that was just Blair's regime. Unfortunately it's not. They have shown themselves to be disgustingly biased since 2010 and, as you say, how they covered Indy Ref was an absolute disgrace. I'm reminded of John McDonnell's words, that if you think it's bad now, wait until they get close to Number 10, they'll throw everything at them to try and tip the scales in the Tories favour.

  3. Managed to fire off a complaint this morning. Very swift response and very empty as per usual;

    Laura Kuenssberg is a journalist that uses social media as part of her job.

    Like many others, Laura quote-tweeted a thread by Omar Salem, who had written himself about his encounter with the PM on social media. He also describes himself as a Labour activist, so we don’t consider it was inaccurate to describe Mr Salem this way. Our editorial guidelines require us to give ‘appropriate information’ about the affiliations of the people involved in our News stories. Giving our audience as much information as possible enables them to make up their own minds and gives them the chance to hear the story in full. We also made it clear in our News coverage the reasons to why Mr Salem was at the hospital in the first place.

    Mr Salem has stated on Twitter, “@bbclaurak is doing her job without fear or favour, which is a vital part of democracy.”

    We strongly refute any suggestions that there was malicious intent behind Laura’s Tweets. News management have been made aware of your comments.
