Out On Blue Six Christmas: The Pretenders/KT Tunstall/The Unthanks

It's that time of year again! It's time to start the festive countdown with some Christmas hits, starting with one of my favourite Christmas songs - one that means more to me with each passing year I think because, the older I get, the more Christmas reminds me of the people who made the Christmases of our past who sadly can't be around for each new one. As I've said previously, what surprises many about 2000 Miles is it's actually more about death than the festivities.

And here's two cover versions; one from KT Tunstall and one from The Unthanks

End Transmission

  1. Never heard of the Unthanks until today, and I now realise what I've been missing all my life! Really interesting, different take on the original song.

And KT Tunstall! That takes me back! I remember regularly seeing her strumming her guitar on Buchanan Street in Glasgow back during her busking days.

    1. Hey look whose stepped into the blogosphere! Long time no so (on here at least)

I LOVE The Unthanks. I've shared a few of their tracks down the years, but in the main its trad folk which (correct me if I'm wrong) I don't think you're a big devotee of?

Envious of you essentially having your own regular outdoor concert from KT ;)

    2. Ha! I've been silently lurking, like a panther just waiting to strike. :D

Yeah, I've looked up some more of their stuff on YouTube and it's not really my cup of tea. But I'm really taken by their version of 2000 Miles - so much so that I actually went and bought the single on iTunes.

Well to be fair, I didn't really pay her all that much attention at the time, and it was only a couple of years after she found fame that I put two and two together, after reading article where she mentioned she used to busk in Glasgow. She did return to her old stomping ground a few years back:
