Theme Time : John Scott - The Return Of The Saint

With Roger Moore having hung up his halo in 1969 and going on to become James Bond in the 1970s, it fell to his looky-likey Ian Ogilvy to step into the action slacks for the revival The Return of The Saint which ran from 1978 to 1979.

The grand theme tune was from composer John Scott, and is perhaps most famous now for its inclusion in the series two I'm Alan Partridge episode Never Say Alan Again in which Patridge, proposing to spend his bank holiday weekend watching all the James Bond films back to back, takes his long-suffering PA Lynn to her mother's grave and plays the air drum along to theme as he waits for her to finish paying her respects.

"So you're the famous Simon Templar?"

If you lived in other areas of Europe beyond the UK though, the show's theme sounded like this....

  1. Won't say much about the series as I'll be covering it pretty soon but it is a great theme tune.
