Richard Johnson, RIP

News of another sad passing has just been announced; veteran actor Richard Johnson has passed away aged 87.

A great talent Johnson was perhaps most famous for his role as Bulldog Drummond in two swinging 60s spy caper outings, Deadlier Than The Male and Some Girls Do, as well as his role in The Haunting. But in a varied career that dated back to the early 50s, Johnson also starred in the likes of Khartoum, Operation Crossbow, The Pumpkin Eater, Never So Few, Zombie, The Monster Club, Magnum PI, Murder She Wrote, Tales of the Unexpected, The Kenny Everett Television Show, Hart To Hart, Dempsey and Makepeace, The Camomile Lawn, Midsomer Murders, Woody Allen's Scoop, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Doc Martin, The Boy In Striped Pyjamas, Spooks and the (very underrated) 2005 sitcom The Robinsons. A renowned stage actor he was also a founding member of the RSC and was once married to Kim Novak.

  1. We liked him, always an agreeable presence and he anchors films like OPERATION CROSSBOW. He also came up with the story for the 1975 IRA thriller HENNESSEY where Rod Streiger chomps the scenery more than usual, particularly when his little girl (young Patsy Kensit) is killed in a shootout .... and he got to marry Kim too.
