Out On Blue Six : Hot Chocolate, RIP Errol Brown

News of another sad passing today; Errol Brown lead singer of hit 70s band Hot Chocolate, has died from liver cancer at the age of 71.

Brown, who was born in Jamaica but moved to the UK with his mother at the age of 12 got his big break sending John Lennon a reggae version of Give Peace a Chance in 1969, leading the Beatle to sign him up to the Apple label. A girl working there gave Brown the name of his band, The Hot Chocolate Band, which they later shortened to just Hot Chocolate. From 1970 to 1984, they gained a string of hits and something of a revival in the 1990s thanks to The Full Monty using their track You Sexy Thing. Brown retired from music in 2009 and died today surrounded by his wife and daughters at their home in the Bahamas.

RIP

  1. I was just saying to a friend, that in 1985 when starting a new relationship we went to the Monday night gay night at Peter Stringfellow's exotic Talk of the Town in London - where I had never been before or since - and Erroll came up to me and said "I have not seen you here for ages" - I wonder who he thought I was ? ...
