Regular readers may recall my delayed discovery of late 70s/early 80s one hit wonder band The Regents (see previous post here)
After some digging around, I found that the two female backing singers who delivered such quirky kooky performances were actually called Kath Best and Bic Brack (and not Bric Brak as I'd previously found on one site and subsequently reported) Kath was the dark haired one and Bic the blonde (and not, as persistent YouTube rumour suggested, the young Lesley Sharp!)
I haven't found much on Kath Best, though there is an actress out there with that name - could this be her? But it seems Bic continued in the music business with this late 80s clubby hit uploaded by Ben Brack (brother? husband?) with the following description...
This is a videoclip from the late-eighties. Bic Brack and Martin Sheller produced the music and shot the video in their flat. Bic and Ben Brack did the edit and applied the Fairlight FX. They are the pioneer producers for the clubscene in the mid-eighties
Martin Sheller was also the lead singer in The Regents, as well as co-writer and co-producer of their material, so its clear to me that following The Regents split, he and Bic went solo and that they were either very good friends and flatmates at the time, or were an item. A German music site shows they released a 12" called Musica Pop in 1983 as The Bic and the site shared some images
Sheller's bandmate/co-songwriter/producer in The Regents was Damien Pew, whose wife/partner Jules Pew is responsible for a couple of uploads of The Regents's performances on YouTube. She reports there that Sheller sadly died in 1999. I learnt from YouTube that The Regents guitarist Brian Gaylor has also died in a hang gliding accident.
