This clip escaped from the archives once more on Saturday night, thanks to Channel 4's interesting documentary series It Was Alright In The 1970s
The programme was the first of a two part series that looks at the kind of thing that was considered acceptable on TV in the 1970s and, as you can see from the advert posted above, it's humourous take on rape and pillage really wouldn't pass muster now.
The advert starred the gorgeous Madeline Smith (she's got her knockers...) who appeared on the programme to give her opinion on the advert and the taste and decency - or perhaps lack of - in television back in her day. Overall, she concluded that perhaps life is taken a touch too seriously these days and whilst I agree, I must admit some of the scenes the programme showed were jaw dropping in their levels of distaste; especially an alleged comedy sketch from Benny Hill concerning a rape victim, complete with made up bruises around her cleavage. Yeah. Hilarious.
It Was Alright In The 1970s is repeated on Wednesday at 11pm (as well as being available on 4OD) and the second part will appear this Saturday at 9pm. Not sure if Madeline will feature again in episode two, but if not here's a second helping...
