Theme Time : Ronnie Hazlehurst - Butterflies

Love Is Like a Butterfly was the title track of the 14th studio album by the Dolly Parton and since its release in 1974 it has become something of a signature theme for the perennially popular country and western star.

So far so so.

In 1978 the song was used as the title theme for Butterflies the BBC's new sitcom from Liverpudlian writer Carla Lane, and was arranged by the maestro Ronnie Hazlehurst and sung by Clare Torrey (the woman who sang the wordless vocals on Pink Floyd's Great Gig In The Sky from the 1973 album The Dark Side Of The Moon) elevating it into something truly sublime and wonderfully melancholic as befits the sitcom's theme of a middle aged woman contemplating adultery.
