RIP Kenny Ireland

The Scottish actor and theatre director Kenny Ireland lost his battle with brain cancer on Thursday aged 68.

Ireland had for the past seven years been familiar to TV viewers thanks to his recurring role as the ageing swinger Donald in ITV's bafflingly popular sitcom Benidorm, but he had a string of roles in popular comedies and dramas over the years including House of Cards, Victoria Wood: As Seen On TV (playing the handyman in the Acorn Antiques sketches) Auf Wiedersehen Pet, Life Without George and Taggart, as well as film roles in Local Hero, The Dogs of War and The Big Man that made him a recognisable face at least if not necessarily a readily recognisable name.

RIP.
