RIP Gerry Conlon
Gerry Conlon, who spent fifteen years in prison following his wrongful conviction for the 1974 Guildford pub bombing, has died aged 60.
In October 1989 The Guildford Four's convictions were quashed by the Court of Appeal. Two years later, in 1991, the sentences of the Maguire Seven - which included Gerry's father Giuseppe who died in prison in 1980 - who were arrested because of their familial connections with Conlon, was finally overturned with Tony Blair apologising for the miscarriage of justice in 2005.
Conlon's story was told in the 1993 Oscar nominated film In The Name Of The Father, which starred Daniel Day-Lewis as Gerry Conlon and Pete Postlethwaite as Giuseppe.
