Theme Time : Ronnie Hazlehurst - Yes, Minister

Yes Minister the BBC sitcom by Antony Jay and Jonathan Lynn ran for three series from 1980 to 1984, before resurfacing as Yes, Prime Minister for 1986 to 1988. Since then there has been a stage play in 2010 and a revival on Gold in 2013, which saw a different cast take the roles previously made famous and memorable by Paul Eddington, Nigel Hawthorne and Derek Fowlds.

The theme tune was another corker from Ronnie Hazlehurst, based on the chimes of Big Ben ('The Westminster Quarters') Suitable, simple and, in Hazlehurst's own words, easy; "That's all it is. It's the easiest thing I've ever done" Well, he's being too modest, what about the wacka wacka guitar accompaniment? And when you couple his music with the caricatures of satirical artist (and Mr Jane Asher) Gerald Scarfe, you get TV opening titles gold.
