Singing the Blues in Red
This is one of my favorites! I saw it on TV as a youngster and recall thinking I'd never seen a more mature-appearing film about teenage life. It didn't wrap youth up in cloak of nostalgia or even self-pity, it just seemed to look at it all through the unblinking gaze of an adult. And speaking of eyes...I fell in love with Rita Tushingham's eyes in this film. Almost scary. I sought out "The Leather Boys" (?) and loved her in that as well. What an original talent! thanks for highlighting this. Now to dig up my DVD and give it another look, it's been a while.
Someone mentioned it on the radio earlier today, which coupled with my recent reading of Morrissey's autobiography, sent me looking for photos to fill the blog with. I was gutted to have missed the play's revival in Manchester a couple of years ago (the previous post) and thinking about it today has made me want to dig my DVD out of it now too! Ah The Leather Boys, another good film. Cheers for stopping by Ken
