Singing the Blues in Red
The taste of Brillo!
You mean Vesta Beef Curry? Like all the meals in the Vesta range it tasted nothing like curry. My Big Teatime Treat when I was a sprog in the sixties was the Vesta (ha ha) Chow Mein as the crispy noodles were amazing (to a nine-year old). Needless to say, my first visit to a chinese restaurant was a hell of a shock. Nevertheless, Vesta's sinister dehydrated offerings were instrumental in introducing us to the concept of 'foreign food'... :)
The very same yes! Do you know you can still get them? The occasional perusal down the aisles of the Home Bargain stores will find Vestas idly standing by on the shelves.Blue Nun and Vesta or Blue Nun and Fray Bentos. Surely the (horrible) taste of nostalgia?
Argh! Canned pies! Still one of my guilty pleasures even now, (with canned spuds to boot) I'm a lost cause... :)
Canned spuds oh no! I'm reminded of that poignant little scene in the final ep of the 1st series of Steve Coogan's Saxondale there - the suggestion it's the food of a man who has given up!
