Susannah Harker as Dr Angie March in Joe Ahearne's brilliant 1998 Channel 4 sci fi/horror drama Ultraviolet.
I've just rewatched this, thanks to a brand spanking new DVD release with lots of extras. It really was a great series with a talented cast that included Jack Davenport, Idris Elba and Philip Quast. The series concerned modern day vampire hunters; an official government department comprising of a scientist (Harker) a police detective (Davenport) a soldier (Elba) and a priest (Quast) and was unique in that it never once mentioned the word 'vampire' throughout all six episodes - preferring instead to call their prey 'Code 5' (5 in Roman numerals being 'V' for vampire) or Leeches (in a similar dehumanising manner the US military referred to Korean soldiers as Gooks) It really was a brilliant update of the vampire mythology and was well ahead of its time. Sadly Ahearne, in creating, writing and directing all six episodes pretty much burnt out and a second series was never materialised.
Bit of trivia about today's gun toting girl; Susannah Harker is actually the great great granddaughter of Jonathan Harker, the friend of Bram Stoker and the real life inspiration for his character in his classic vampire novel, Dracula
She was Mrs Iain Glen from 1993 to 2004 and was Paul McGann's partner from 2006 to 2008.
Ahearne wrote Angie with Harker in mind, wanting her for her cool Hitchcockian blonde image.
